Florianopolis, which has a population of about 500,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the State of Santa Catarina. The city, divided into two, is located partly on the mainland and partly on the island in front – the large Ilha de Santa Catarina. The two parts of the city are linked by two bridges, one of which is the longest steel suspension bridge in Brazil. Florianopolis is a modern city characterized by 42 beautiful, uncontaminated beaches. Over recent years a tourist boom has been taking place, in fact more and more tourists are deciding to spend their holidays here. It is like a small Miami, with a coastline of about 15 km where at all hours of the day there is someone enjoying sports or there are groups of young people having fun making music and dancing. The shopping centres are full of lavish boutiques, top quality restaurants and just as many bars and discos. The city is also famous for being the Brazilian surfing capital and every year the surfing world championships are held at one of its beaches.  (More) ...
