After four years of work, the cemetery of Colleville in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer opened in 1956, overlooking Omaha Beach shore. Here rest 9,386 American soldiers among them four women. In the "missing soldiers' garden" (Jardin des disparus) are inscribed the names of 1557 soldiers who have disappeared during the landing.
