Walter Amiotte, tank driver in the 2nd Armoured Division, so-called "Hell on Wheels". Walter landed on June 28th in Normandie and reached Germany, where his division liberated the concentration camp of Buchenwald. In Magdeburg, his tank was hit. As he tried to get out, Walter lost his leg. Of Sioux origin, he lived in Phoenix until his death in 1996. Even with an artificial limb, he had 8 children and worked as a baker all his life.
