The baby elephants separated from their mothers arrive at the training center around the age of two and are put under the responsibility of a mahout (an elephant trainer). Many of the leisure centers need to hire more and more new recruits, and since there are no more wild elephants in Thailand, they have to bring them in from elsewhere. So, near the borders, it is not surprising to run into little orphans obediently following their new masters.
