Parents in a small clinic near Kaga Bandoro are waiting in the burning sun to be treated. A doctor only comes once a month. Some people walk for hours to visit the health post. Most come to feed their malnourished babies. Malnutrition is a serious problem in the Central African Republic. The infant mortality rate at 176 per 1000 is amongst the highest in the world. In the rural areas this problem is even bigger where hundreds of thousands of IDPs have no access to balanced food, clean drinking water or even basic medical facilities.
