Katharina Gilcher was born in Landau, Germany, in 1978 and grew up in Italy in San Felice Circeo, Latina. At the age of twenty she moved to Rome where she took a three year masters at the “Istituto Superiore di Fotografia and Comunicazione Integrata”, from where she graduated in June 2004. She gained experience in the field of photo-journalism working as a reporter for the German daily newspaper “Die Lampertheimer Zeitung”. Her enthusiasm for photography made her come to the decision to pursue other aspects of this art, and so she went to London to take part in one of the “Working in freelance photography” and “Landscape photography” workshops at the influential Central Saint Martins College. Her artistic research began this way and took shape in the development of her early personal projects. Back in Italy she moved to Florence where, after an initial phase as photographic assistant to Patricio Estay she became a member of the international agency Nazca Pictures.
