Franco Guardascione was born in Naples in 1969. When he was very young he became interested in photography and taught himself the basic skills of the darkroom.
He obtained a diploma in Advertising Graphics and Photography and began a successful collaboration with the Neapolitan photographer Libero de Cunzo of the Mimmo Jodice School.
He perfected his film shooting and darkroom techniques by coping with the everyday problems involved in his work and this helped him to be able to teach photography and photo printing at the Umberto Boccioni State School in Naples.
In 1992 he began working with the Fototecnica di Napoli photographic agency and this opened the doors to working in sport photo-reportage, concentrating particularly on football.
In the same year he established contacts with Controluce, the Neapolitan photo-journalistic agency. For many years he alternated between sport photo-reportage and news reportage and worked with the Superintendency of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Naples, Salerno and Avellino.
In 1997 he approached the Art School of Prof.Gaetano Sgambati of the Accademia de belle Arti di Napoli, and soon became their official photographer, an experience which deeply influenced his view of things.
In 2000 he moved to Tuscany, in the mountain area of Mugello and there he began an exciting collaboration with the Archicio Zeta theatrical company. He worked on artistic research with great dedication and organized some exhibitions.
In 2007 the passion for photo-journalism once again erupted, and a so began a research on the gypsies and immigrants from Eastern Europe. In the wake of this work he met Patricio Estay, the head of the photo-journalistic agency, Nazca Pictures and straight away a working relationship was established.
